About Me

Hello there Readers! My name is Annie. I am a 30-something WV woman, and I come from a long line of Appalachian people, and am quite proud of my heritage. I claim my 3 older sisters as my dearest friends, and our parents have inspired many with their 45 year love story, beginning when they were 16! We are a close bunch, and try to spend as much time together as we can.

Me & Paul in one of our favorite vacation destinations: Beaufort, NC.
I’ve been married to my best friend Paul for 13 years, and we have been fortunate enough to welcome 3 amazing new humans into the world: Kya (12), Owen (10), and Finn (2). We’ve also been blessed with the love of several good dogs through the years, particularly Labradors. We’ve always been proud to live a simpler life in the rural communities of the Appalachian Mountains, and recently purchased a 9-acre property where we’ve begun to navigate the waters of homesteading.

I completed my Bachelor’s Degree with a focus on Child Development; then began to pursue a Masters in Education. I have worked with children and families in varying capacities: childbirth education; homeschooling; public school substitute teaching; curriculum design; preschool assistant director; nanny (before my kids); babysitting; and of course, mothering! Last year, I left the field of Education to pursue a career in Nursing, as I’ve aspired to be a Nurse since I was very young.
Through the years, I’ve strengthened my home-keeping skills: honing in on the art of cooking, gardening, health maintenance, and decluttering! This skill development has been inspired by a sense of commitment to the value of a slower paced life, honoring simplicity and deep meaningful connections with other humans, animals, and the Earth we live on. I take great pride in the work I’ve done thus far, building my life and family, and I truly believe that we can begin to improve the state of the world by giving more attention to matters around the family and home!
“If you want to change the world, go home and love your family.”  Mother Teresa
No day passes without a moment of awe and gratitude for my many blessings. My husband and I have worked hard to get where we are, making dreams come to life. But, we’re not done dreaming! We have goals involving not only developing our homesteading skills, becoming more self-sufficient; but also expanding on the ways in which we can save money, and earn a living working for ourselves.
That is a brief summary of what has brought me to this moment, where I find myself embarking on the journey of blogging. My intention is that this site becomes a haven of resources for myself and others – including enriching stories, ideas, & photos celebrating the simple life!
